Sustainability Maturity Model
The five-level model locates an organisation's implementation stage and defines what advancing to the next level requires. NOVARIC® assesses itself against this model annually, and offers the same diagnostic to partners. Select a level to view its characteristics.
Level 1 — Initial
Diagnostic characteristics. Sustainability activity is ad hoc and personality-dependent. No documented commitments, no KPIs, no governance owner. Compliance is reactive.
To advance. Document first commitments; assign executive ownership; adopt the Manual as governing instrument.

To advance. Document first commitments; assign executive ownership; adopt the Manual as governing instrument.
Level 2 — Defined
Diagnostic characteristics. Commitments are documented and approved. Core policies exist — recruitment ethics, environment, procurement — but measurement is partial and review is irregular.
To advance. Deploy the KPI register across all material commitments; establish the annual review cycle.
Level 3 — Managed
Diagnostic characteristics. All material commitments carry KPIs with owners and review points. The risk register operates quarterly. Reporting follows GRI/ESRS structure. Controls are audited internally.
To advance. Move to independent assurance; integrate sustainability criteria into all commercial decision gates.
Level 4 — Integrated
Diagnostic characteristics. Sustainability criteria are embedded in every commercial decision — client acceptance, supplier selection, product design. Independent audit is routine. Data quality supports external assurance.
To advance. Extend measurement into value-chain outcomes; publish assured sustainability statements.
Level 5 — Leading
Diagnostic characteristics. The organisation's standards demonstrably raise sector practice: methodology is shared, partnerships multiply the framework, and reporting meets full ESRS/CSRD assurance expectations.
To advance. Sustain through the annual review cycle; mentor sector peers; contribute to standard-setting.
