The UN Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025 records that global maternal mortality fell from 228 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2015 to 197 in 2023 — still nearly triple the SDG target of 70 — and that progress on several health targets has stalled amid post-pandemic strain, inequality and chronic underfunding of health systems.
